The English Language Centre offers a year-round programme of General English courses intended for students seeking to improve their English, for personal and professional purposes.

Students may choose from:

General English A

15 hours of classes each week, which take place Monday to Friday 09.15 to 12.45 (This course is not available during the summer, 31 May to 27 August 2010)

General English B

24 hours of classes each week, which take place Monday to Thursday 09.15 to 16.00 and Friday 09.15 to 15.00

From 31 May to 27 August 2010 the course is called the Adult Summer General English Programme. This includes an excursion every Saturday and more events in the social programme.

These courses feature a combination of general language improvement and communications skills work. The focus is on improving grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation as well as developing the 4 key skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing.

A typical day’s timetable could be:

09.15–10.45 Course work with the Course Tutor to cover the essential grammar components
10.45–11.15 Break
11.15–12.45 Reinforcement of new structures, vocabulary development and practice in the 4 skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing
12.45–13.45 Lunch break
13.45–14.45 Further practice in the 4 skills. Additional work on the structures and vocabulary introduced during the morning sessions.
14.45–15.00 Break
15.00–16.00 Topic and project work, student presentations, tutorials with Course Tutors

Please note that our teaching weeks comprise 15 (mornings only) and 24 (full time) contact teaching hours and that breaks and lunch times are not included.
