York is a compact city with great transport links. Options for getting around the city without a car are: walking, public transport or cycling.
Walking
York is a very compact city and many people walk to work or school each day. The majority of our students are able to walk to the school every day, from their homestay.
Public transport
York has an excellent bus service with one main provider: First Bus and two or three smaller companies.
Cycling
York is officially the safest city in which to cycle in the UK. It is easily the quickest way across town and many people commute to work each day by bicycle. There are many miles of cycle routes, some completely traffic free, both for travelling to school and for leisure time. There is a large bicycle parking facility about 10 metres from the main school entrance. Click here for more information on cycling around York.
