The best way to see York is on foot as everything is within walking distance! Other ways of exploring the city and beyond are by bus, cycling, or hiring a car.

Walking

York is a very compact city and many people walk to work or school each day. The majority of our students are able to walk to the school every day, from their homestay.

Public transport

York has excellent bus links for getting around the centre and the outskirts of the city.  Here you will find timetable and information from the main service provider First Bus.

There are also great places to visit out of the city centre which are accessible by the Coastliner bus, such as Scarborough, Filey, Whitby and Leeds.

Cycling

York is officially the safest city in which to cycle in the UK. It is easily the quickest way across town and many people commute to work each day by bicycle. There are many miles of cycle routes, some completely traffic free, both for travelling to school and for leisure time. There is a large bicycle parking facility about 10 metres from the main school entrance. Click here for more information on cycling around York.

Car hire

To escape to the countryside or further afield, you could hire a car with Enterprise or Europcar.
